Lincoln Service and Repair in Bedeque, PEI
Lincoln, formally the Lincoln Motor Company, is the luxury vehicle division of American auto company Ford. Lincoln Motor Company was founded in 1917 by Henry M. Leland. He named it after Abraham Lincoln. Leland was one of the co-founders of Cadillac in 1902 and went on to manage the company, with his son, Wilfred, after it was acquired by General Motors in 1908. The Lelands resigned from Cadillac in 1917 to form the Lincoln Motor Company in order to manufacture Liberty motors during World War One. The first Lincoln motorcar was completed in September of 1920. By late 1921 the Lincoln Motor Company was in severe financial difficulty and in February 1922 the company was sold to the Ford Motor Company. During the 1930s the luxury market began to disappear but Lincoln continued to build automobiles. Introduced in 1939, the Lincoln Continental, originally a one-off design built for Edsel, was a hit with his friends and was soon offered as a limited production car. 25 were built that year, followed by another 400 in 1940 and become an icon of automotive design.
In 2012, Ford rebranded the Lincoln division under its original name, Lincoln Motor Company. The Lincoln star emblem is derived from a badge first used on the 1956 Continental Mark II. Lincoln remains the sole luxury nameplate of Ford Motor Company. In 2017, Lincoln has sold 188,383 vehicles globally.
